Free Will?

I had a very interesting conversation today with one of the brightest minds I have the pleasure of knowing. We had a bit of a mental sparing match as we discussed the concept of free will. I want nothing more than to get you thinking by this post, so I will simply raise these questions and leave you to answer them for yourselves...

*Do we have free will?
*If in fact we have free will, does that mean God has free will; and if we don't, does He then NOT have free will? -after all, we are made in His image
*If we have free will is it then limited, or limitless?

enjoy the melting of your mind...

Given that most people follow habits nurtured under their parents and reinforced by society, I'd say that we have a very limited amount of free will. This is seen by looking at decision trends by culture. A person from one country has tendencies to act a certain way while another person from another country will act differently.

I think of people's actions as grains in an hourglass. The hourglass(biological makeup, mental conditioning, society norms etc) funnels our actions and emotions towards a narrow set of outcomes.

It is only through reason and rational decision making that free will can be somewhat attainable. Through reason and introspection we can question our nature and mental condition and change how we make decisions.
